The Blind Alley was founded on March 31, 1984, in Bellevue, Washington, by Gene and Kurt Evers and is still owned and operated by the Evers family.
The family has a long history in the window treatment business. Kurt was a drapery installer helper in 1967 during his senior year of high school. He then became an installer in his own right, a career he pursued into the 90s. He also made custom roller shades and curtain rods. Gene, meanwhile, had been an engineer for Boeing until 1971, when he purchased a drapery, carpet, and upholstery shop in Beacon Hill, Beacon Hill Upholstery. He changed the name to Beacon Interiors and hired Kurt, who continued to install independently.
In 1980, Gene brought his business home to Bellevue and changed the name to Pacific Interiors. In 1982, the company Kurt was working at as a contractor was purchased by Hunter Douglas and began to sell Hunter Douglas blinds, shades, and shutters.
In 1984, Gene and Kurt decided to open a new window-covering showroom together, calling it The Blind Alley. Today, the Blind Alley sells Hunter Douglas window treatments near Bellevue, WA. The Evers family is still responsible for the store's management and operations.
In 2003, we were selected alongside over 480 other Hunter Douglas dealers nationwide to participate in the exclusive Hunter Douglas gallery program, limited to dealers with demonstrated knowledge and expertise regarding Hunter Douglas products and services.
